Happy New Year!
This past year has been incredible, full of highs and lows and so much learning. I've had my final two surgeries, learned about color, made custom paint brushes from YouTube tutorials, and discovered I paint landscapes best on 10x7 paper. I joined ArtChrysalis and had a great time doing monthly paintings, each one interesting and unique, and for the first time really feel the group spirit on DA. I met so many wonderful artists and got to talk with them this year. I learned to put my art out there on thumbshares and interact with others more. I got convinced to share my poetry and even earned a DD for one of them. And I made the most difficult decision I've had to make in a while: to stop doing commissions and change careers from artist to online college course support, which paved the way to apply for a Masters program - an application I'm currently working on because it involves writing a research paper. I hope that everyone's year has been at least bearable, and that 2022 is full of
Mixing Green in Watercolor
A video I enjoyed by a watercolor instructor on YouTube about mixing greens caused me to reflect on what I have learned this year about mixing greens. Thanksgiving and onward is always a time to reflect on the year, as it's drawing to a close. Here is her video: https://youtu.be/VN2Wdd18osQ And here is what I have to say about mixing greens. Mixing greens was surprising for me. Paints I would have thought I needed to keep apart produced my favorite colors. In the video, Michele Webber calls these mixes "Recipes", which is cute. Very well, I'll go along with her. My Favorite Recipes Pthalo Blue + Quinacridone Gold Deep -- This is a lovely pine green that can act as a substitute for the niche Daniel Smith color Cascade Green. Unlike Cascade Green, not granulating. Cobalt Teal Blue + Cadmium Yellow -- This is a beautiful, bright, sunlit green like a more interesting version of Pthalo Yellow Green all the way out to a substitute for Permanent Green Light. Unlike either of those

Life Update
I'm starting a new job that involves being on call in case someone calls or messages with an online program support question. I still get to work from home but I don't get to use my down time to make money for another enterprise of any kind - a non-compete clause. But I did get the all-clear to engage in a quiet hobby that I can stop/pause working on as soon as I have a call or a message and that doesn't access social media during my on-call hours. They know I need a way to stay sane instead of twiddling my thumbs and they don't want me on social media. Non-compete clauses are pretty common. I understand a lot of professions have them. So expect to see a lot of personal paintings, because I'm going to be occupying myself!
